Wait just a minute there! Who among us doesn't keep our emergency funds in the freezer? According to the FBI, William Jefferson, Representative from Louisiana, does exactly that. More precisely it is reported by the FBI, he stashes $90,000 in his freezer. Perhaps this is something all people from Louisiana do? If so I would think we would have read about the notorious "freezer thieves" that roam Louisiana much like the train robbers of the wild wild west. No, if the FBI isn't making up this story, the only thief here is William Jefferson, as he has made off with the trust of his constituency. Certainly he doesn't expect anyone but an absolute "moron" to buy into his "line of reasoning" or should I say "lies" of reasoning. When caught with your hand in the cookie jar, you're caught, end of story! If he isn't in jail, and if he does run for another term in Congress, how will his constituents vote? This is the $64 question.

Rationalizing Iraq...Senator John McCain recently instructed an audience of graduating students of the need to press on in Iraq. Make no mistake, Iraq is a product of George W. Bush's desire to retaliate against Sadam Hussein for his threats against his father. He succeeded in removing the tyrant from power, who is currently being held accountable for his misdeeds. However, the cost to us as a nation for this act of revenge is quite significant. Consider: 1) the the loss of American military personnel, 2) financial cost to taxpayers, 3) time and effort of members of Congress and 4) continued mayhem in Iraq.

Prior administrations, including that of George H.W. Bush, understood that Iraq, being an underdeveloped nation, was a high risk proposition. It was only the threat of terror imposed by Hussein which maintained a limited degree of civility within Iraq. That "strong arm" being gone has opened the door for the many fractions (i.e. tribes) to fight for religion, their share of political power, land, etc. I'm sure there are as many reasons for their fighting as there are tribes. None the less, there is NO RATIONALIZING this conflict. Visit Barbzzz.com for more "honest commentary" on the issues facing our nation and world.
